The Last Word in Unattainable Luxury

Shown on Thursday: 2008 Lamborghini Reventón

Is it real? Unreal. Within a few hours of its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, Lamborghini said all 20 Reventón it plans to make were sold.

What’s the point? Audi, Lamborghini’s owner, was trying to trump Volkswagen, which makes the seven-figure Bugatti Veyron. The Reventón’s North American debut at the L.A. Auto Show was apparently intended to make cash-flush Tinseltown types rue not having gone toFrankfurt.

What they said: “The Reventón is the most extreme of all, a true automotive superlative,” said Stephan Winkelmann, president and chief executive of Automobili Lamborghini. “Our designers took the technical base of the Murciélago LP640 and compressed and intensified its DNA, its genetic code.”

What they didn’t say: Despite a tube-frame chassis and carbon fiber body, the Reventón still tips the scales at 3,670 pounds (that’s dry weight). Its huge engine must have roughly the same density as an asteroid.

What makes it tick? A reworked, 650-horsepower version of the Murciélago V-12, with a six-speed e-Gear automatic transmission — good for 3.4-second 0-60 times and a top speed above 200 m.p.h.

How much, how soon? $1.4 million. Though Lamborghini has sold all it will make, that won’t stop those who have already bought them from trying to flip them (Case in point: a British dealer offered one recently for $1.6 million.)

How’s it look? Extraterrestrial. Special low-luster opaque greenish-gray exterior paint gives the angular, aeronautically inspired body more than a passing resemblance to a stealth-bomber.

Lil Wayne bashes his own crew onstage: “I just want the muthaf—ers that’s with me to know….it ain’t about what I’m on, its about what I do.”

A few hours after getting out of jail, Weezy performed in Richmond, Va. While venting to the crowd, he says makes some interesting, and not so subtle comments while pointing to his own entourage behind him.

“When your friends turn their back on you, they tell you one thing, say they’re gonna be there for you, and then when things get to that point, muthaf—ers end up looking like a damn [not clear, can anyone hear what he says?].…..I just want all these muthaf–kers that been with me, that ain’t gon’ never been here again….to know that, I did it for y’all. So when I’m not doing it for y’all no mo’….Die.”

Then Wayne addresses the drug abuse allegations…..”I am the ultimate high. I am my drug.”

Later on in the video, he points at the entourage standing behind him and says “I don’t need none of those muthaf—ers, I got you!” (pointing at the crowd) Then he asks the crowd to join him in yelling “f–k you” to his own team. Lil Wayne eventually tells his DJ something and walks off stage.

Before you buy that Sidekick on eBay…

It sounds like T-Mobile had a huge theft of phones over the weekend. Someone broke into a warehouse and stole around 36,000 phones, roughly worth about $8.2 million. And the kicker, most of these phones were Sidekicks (we’re assuming LX and Slides). T-Mobile of course has all of the IMEIs for the devices on record, and they’ll be keeping an eye out for any of these devices by monitoring who activates them. So if you see a deal that looks too good to be true, and the dealer is a little bit sketchy, you might want to pass. Here’s the internal email that got sent out to T-Mobile dealers:

“Wanted to let you all know that one of our warehouses was broken into over the weekend and some 36,000 phones were stolen (worth about 8.2 Million). The most significant phones stolen were the Sidekick phones. Please make sure you inform the dealers who like to purchase gray market handsets that we are aggressively working with law enforcement to prosecute anyone who has these handsets. We do know the IMEI’s of the stolen phones and once they end up on our network we will go to the dealer code that activated the phone. So if your dealers get a call about Sidekicks and the deal is too good to be true you will know why.”

SAY WORD! | MTV’S 10 HOTTEST MC’ S LIST CAUSES A STIR

10. Jim Jones
9. Common
8. 50 Cent
7. Jay-Z
6. Young Jeezy
5. Kanye West
4. Andre 3000
3. The Game
2. T.I.
1. Lil Wayne

At first, I must admit, I was somewhat taken aback by the list put together by MTV’s Hip-Hop brain trust. Jay-Z is number 7 and Nas is no where on the list, something was terribly wrong. On second thought, the list consists of who is hot at the particular time it was conceived not who is the nicest and most skilled. With that said and Hip-Hop being what it is, the list was outdated the minute it was created. For example: Common’s album just dropped and 50 Cent’s single I get Money is on heavy rotation which would theoretically move them closer to the number 1 spot. According to MTV, the criteria for the list were skills, success, impact and swagger (how do you measure that?). Anyway, I am not completely mad at the results. Of course my top ten hottest would be different, I would add Nas, Fabolous and would get rid of Game and Young Jeezy but I don’t think you can argue with Lil Wayne coming in first – that dude is on virtually every song on the radio. I would also have added an honorable mention to Young Berg and Papoose. What are your thoughts on the list?
